- Amelia is mad at Lyddie, and Amelia took Lyddie's book. In the text it says, " The two you should be exercising your bodies instead of holing up in this stuffy room reading, Amelia said... Lyddie! Get your nose out of that book. (pg 89-90)" This is person vs person conflict because Amelia is mad at Lyddie.
- A bear broke into Lyddie's house and everyone is scared. In the text, it says, " She backed up to the ladder and, never taking her eyes off the beat, inched her way up to the loft... it's all right, she murmured. He can't reach us. (pg 2)" This is person vs nature conflict because there is a bear in their house, which is apart of nature.
- Diana and Lyddie are talking to each other and Diana told Lyddie that she believes in Workers' rights. In the text, it says, "Yes, why, should the operatives themselves fear us? It is, dear Lyddie, the nature of slavery to have the slave fear freedom. (pg 69)" Diana is going against society because she believes in workers' rights ad society would dissarove of this.
