Narrator foreshadows fate
We both think it would be better if you left ... your work has deteriorated.
Miss Johnstone, whose husband abandoned her after having seven children, is pregnant with another child. Miss Johnstone goes to the doctor for a check up of the baby and is told she is having twins. Upset, she tells the person she works for as a cleaner, Miss Lyons. In a previous conversation we learn she is infertile. Miss Lyon begs to keep one and explains her husband would never know. They agree.
We were born on the same day ... that means we can be blood brothers.
MIss Johnstone reluctantly lets Miss Lyons pick a child.
It's just ... it's these people ... these people Edward has started mixing with.
MIss Lyons fires MIss johnstone as she became jealous and suspicoious that MIss Johnstone is spending to much time with the baby.
Eddie and Mickey (the twins) happen to bump into each other at a playground. THey become best friends and blood brothers after discovering they were born on the same day.
Miss Lyons becxomes worried about the twins finding out what happened and begs her husband to move houses.
