- Chi Li sneaks out of her home and volunteers to be sacrificed despite her family's wishes.
- 6. Atonement with the Father
- Chi Li is given a serpent-hound on a leash, a sharp-pointed sword, and the freedom to use them, all of which she requested from the chief magistrate.
- Chi Li is brought to the serpent's den by country officials.
- Chi Li slays the serpent.
