  • The freedom school was a program to help poor black kids get a better education during the summer. There were around six different academies that in total had 3,00 students and each one had about 600 kids!
  • Slide: 2
  • They were so many horrible and unequitable conditions that eventually that eventually led to the establishment on freedom schools. For example Activists noticed that there was a humongous difference in how white students were treated v. how black students were. Next, schools were aware of there problems and used terms such as "sharecropper education. The meaning of this phrase is how there were limited resources for black students. Finally, public schools lacked honesty in history teaching and "brainwashed kids into thinking the opposite of true history.

  • Staughton Lynd and Bob Moses. Staughton Lynd coordinated the freedom-school project in the Mississippi Freedom Summer. Bob Moses was an organizer with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He grew up in New York and wanted to follow in his parents footsteps in growing up but specifically always had a passion for human rights. Bob Moses also grew up in New York and received high quality education which leaded him to big opportunities like SNCC but specifically worked in voting right
