Yolanda visits her Tia Camen's house in Dominican Republic after 5 years for the first time to see her aunts and cousins. She feels a language barrier between her and her family.
Hello guys! I've missed you mucho ....
Hello??? Es cómo están, familia ...
Yolanda!
Yolanda is linguistically and mentally detached from her family. This leads to Yolanda to put a wall between her and her family. Yolanda has forgotten most of her spanish in America and has a trouble communicating with her primarly spanish speaking family.
Tranquila hija... todo mejorará
What's the problem?
Oh por Dios.... ¡ya no hablas español!
¿Qué hacemos?
Yolanda faces one of her greatest fear and crisis when her car get a problem. Two man then aproaches to her in order to help her but she was so scared at the begginng because she dind't know what do. The two men were so kind with her that Yolanda later paid them in order to thanking them for solvig the problem. Yolanda consistenly expects the wrong reaction from the Dominicans she meets. She expected the two men with machetes to try harm her, but in fact, they just only wanted to help her. Her time living in U.S has shaped her identity.
