- The Spanish only came to the Americas for gold and silver. They took many Native Americans and made them their slaves. They made the Natives help look for gold and silver, and when they didn't find any the slaughtered them. And they also tried to convert them to catholics.
- The French came to the Americas to set up a fur trade with the Natives. They became good friends with the Natives. The Natives taught them how to hunt. The French even lived among the Natives to learn their way of life.
- The Dutch came to explore and claim some of the land. They traveled along the Hudson River Valley. They established New York and created a leading center for trade in the Americas.
