  • In the early years of the Y' century, the norther territories ofNew spain (Texas cent Viexico, the Californias, Chihuahua andsonora) were practicany uninhabited, as the population wasconcentrated in the cena and southern temitory of New Spain.

  • Once the USA accomplished its independence, it began a rapidand violentprocess of territorial expansion. Firstly, at the expense ofthe indigenous peoplesliving near the boundaries of the new nation who werecruelly fought, slaughteredand expelled from their territories. This process forced thenative Americans tomigrate to French, English and Spanish possessions inAmerica. In 1803, the USAbought the territory of Louisiana from France. In 1812, theAmericans tried toseize the British colony of Canada. The result was theAnglo-American War, from1812 to 1814, in which the USA was defeated and forced tosign a peace treaty. Theappropriation of these territories led the US to be adjacentto the Viceroyalty ofNew Spain).
