  • After inheriting her fortune, Catherine decides she wants to build a house where she would shelter and provide the needs for many children. In this house that she wanted to build she would teach young children to cook, sew, and educate them. She gathered Fr. Armstrong and Fr. Blake and asked them to find a good location for the house.
  • Fr. Armstrong and Fr. Blake got to work and found a site for the house. In 1823 the builders moved on site. The site was on the corner of Herbert Street and Baggot Street. Catherine was very pleased with this location as it was in the heart of Dublin and the reason she was pleased was because the poor would soon be living beside the rich. In the house she wanted lots of classroom space, plenty of large windows and big dorms that the children and helpers could sleep/stay in.
  • Mary and James passed by the site frequently, and one day James expressed his worries to Mary about the building that was in construction. He was saying that it was looking like those dreadful convents and he was worried that she would turn it into a convent and that she would team up with Miss Akenhead's follower's. Mary told him not to worry that Catherine wasn't that silly and that she wouldn't do such as she was too focused on helping the poor.
