Stores were being taken away from the Chinese and they came across an agreement stating that if opium was to ever be traded again then the people will be punished by the Chinese law. This eventually lead to a war.

The Western military weapons were far superior to China's weapon so this war wasn't so successful for the Chinese because they lost. The British were victorious. The emperor had no choice but to accept the British demands and sign a peace agreement.

This agreement was called The Treaty of Nanjing. It was the first of many unequal treaties that Chinese were forced to sign.
