- "His anger left him suddenly. He looked across the fire at Lennie's anguished face, and then he looked ashamed at the flames." This quote tells you that George isn't a bad guy, he just has a temper. However, he doesn't mean to take it out on Lennie and that he cares about Lennie deeply.

- "Lennie, who had been watching, imitated George exactly." This tells you about Lennie's character because it shows how he looks up to George. How he wants to be just like George and loves him.
- Friendship: "No- look! I was jus' foolin', Lennie. 'Cause I want you to stay with me."
- Two themes that are shown in the first chapter are friendship and isolation.
- Isolation: "Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the lonilest guys in the world."
- I believe that when George and Lennie get to the ranch they will get to start working. Lennie will try to be quiet like George told him to, but once they have the job something might go wrong like it did aat their last job.
