Avery's Story

- Avery grew up in a very conservative household raised by their mother (Amanda) and father (Ryder). Growing up Avery was raised alongside sister (Lia) who was 2 years younger. From a very young age Avery displayed interests in participating in what felt like “boy” activities according to their parents. Not only did they enjoy activities that were boy-like but did they also like to dress more gender neutral if given the opportunity. Although these signs were present and could have been used as indicators that Avery may have felt different than what she was assigned at birth, their parents brushed it off and were convinced it was a phase they would grow out of. Little did they know, this was not a phase but something that Avery would become more passionate about and persistent on as they grew older.

- "Avery, I'm tired of the tomboy clothing. You are getting older now and need to start dressing more appropriately."
- "I don't think that there is anything wrong with out Av's dressing.
- "Yeah Av, we can take you to the mall this weekend to pick out some new outfits that are more complimenting."
- "Mom, this is how I want to dress. This is when I feel the most comfortable in my own skin."
- “Look Av, this is perfect for you! Cute and comfy. We are so getting this for you!” while dragging Avery around the mall picking out items that were against everything Avery was comfortable with. "
- *Avery is looking in the mirror at the clothes that their mother forced them to get. Tears roll down their face as they realize that yet again their voice is not heard. Their feelings are completely disregarded leaving them defeated once again*
