Ghandi marches toward the sea leading the Indian people to collect their own salt and boycott the British. As he walks thousands of people come out of their houses and join him and his group.
Ghandi and many Indian people collect natural salt from the sea after the long journey. It was a lot harder to do this than buying salt from the British. But this was a way to send a message to the British.
The people of india are boycotting the salt tax!
Ghandi is successful in leading the salt march and British leaders are not happy about the boycott because of their loss in money.
Ghandi is the leader of this resistance!
Ghandi continues to lead the people of india in non violent protests and boycotts. Lots of Indian people join his non violence movement Ghandi also helps India gain unity with many people of different religions working together against the British.
Ghandi says this in his quit india speech and it is clear how much he cares about india and its freedom from Britain. He wants nothing more than the people of India to gain unity and
"We shall either free India or die in the attempt; we shall not live to see the perpetuation of our slavery."
The British leave india in 1947. Gandhi and his non violence movement was a very important factor leading to their freedom. Although India gets freed from Britain many problems follow their freedom like violence because of partition. Ghandi did not support the partition of india because he thought that the unity between everyone in india would fall apart. Ghandi was right about this and many problems followed partition. Ghandi could not really do much about this because he was sadly murdered a year later. Ghandis impact on india was very important for their freedom.
