Storyboard Text

  • Good morning class today we are learning about gravity and friction. Can anyone tell me what gravity is?
  • Gravity and Sliding Friction
  • Hmm weight?
  • Nooo gravity is the invisible force that pulls us down towards the Earth and pushes us to the crust of the Earth
  • Correct! An examples of gravity is when you throw a ball in the air and gravity will pull it back down towards the Earth. Since you are on the Earth it will come back to you.
  • Gravity and Sliding Friction
  • Ok, does anyone know what sliding friction is?
  • Gravity and Sliding Friction
  • Sliding friction is the resistance created by any two objects when sliding against each other.
  • Sliding friction creates heat, that's why you would rub your hands together so that they can get warmer from the friction.
  • Great job you are both correct! Some examples of sliding friction are sledding and sliding across the floor. The reason why you go so fast down the hill is because when you are sledding there is less friction between the sled and the snow allowing you to go faster down a hill. Also if you were sliding across the floor in your comfy slippers due to the amount of friction your floor has depends on how far you will go.
