  • Labor issues: Poor working conditions, labor unions, child labor, and social movements. What was done? Labor laws came into play, long with minimum wage and unions/protests. This allowed change to enter the era. The government was involved and they created "The Department of Labor". This allowed all of the demands to be met and fixed. Government Reforms: Problems? Social and Racial inequities and Limited scope. There were direct primaries and social reforms that were introduced to solve these problems. Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson helped government reforms.

  • Immigration and Urbanization: What were the problems? Overcrowding and competition in the workplace. What was done to solve this problem? Policy reforms and urban planning. This controlled the amount of immigrants and gave better policies for those looking for jobs. Who solved these problems? The policy makers, also known as the government stepped in to help. Prohibition: Crime levels rose while also losing tax revenue. This caused many more problems. This is where speakeasy's were created. The 21st amendment was created to end the ban of alcohol. Franklin D. Roosevelt appealed the approval of the 21st amendment.

  • Women's Rights: women had to work in poor working conditions and were denied the right to vote. This all changed when the Triangle Shirtwaist factory incident took place. The Suffrage movement took place, giving women the right to vote and providing safer working conditions, with educational opportunities. Susan B. Anthony was a leading role model for women's suffrage. many problems, including poor working conditions and social injustices. Muckrakers/crusaders: They focused on social change and exposing corruption. They kept going strong, exposing corrupt policies and that's where "The Jungle" came along to show the conditions and cruelty in the meat factories. They fixed many problems, including poor working conditions and social injustices.
