- How does that protect us from anything?
- They also added a Bill of Rights to the Constitution to add even more protection for us.
- That's a lot of stuff, but it's not like I usually need to use them.
- Well, the first Amendment protects a lot of freedoms, like freedom of speech, religion, peaceful assembly, and protest.
- Well that's just the first amendment, there are way more, such as the fourth amendment.
- What does the 4th Amendment do?
- Well, it prevents unreasonable searches.
- Which mean?
- So teachers can't search my backpack without a reasonable cause? That does seem handy, but won't there be many rights that aren't listed in there?
- It means that our property is protected from being searched without suspicion. This protects our privacy as well as our property.
- Wow, so it really does protect a lot!
- So that protects our many other rights not listed?
- No, as the 9th Amendment states that any rights not mentioned are given to the people.
