When I was in the third grade I was interested in running for student council. However, in order to run you would have to give a speech on why the class should vote for you and I was a pretty shy kid. However, I stepped out of my comfort zone and presented to the class why I should be chosen. Luckily choosing to get out of my comfort zone paid off and I ended up getting voted in. This showed me that stepping out of my comfort zone pays off.
By the Waters of Babylon
John Going into York New
my cousin Faith had a large influence on me because she showed me what it's like to be goal-oriented. She studied really hard in school and really aimed to get better by reading self-improvement books and things like that. Because she approached things like that she was top of her class in college and is now studying for her doctorates degree.
Asian Hate
When I was really young, like 5 years old I had a pretty bad staring problem.  For whatever reason whenever I would see someone I would have the urge to just stare at them. Luckily through my parent's teaching me, I was able to stop. this shaped me because it made me understand to respect other's privacy and do not mind other's business
I think the story by the waters of Babylon had a pretty big impact on me this year. During the middle of the year I felt like I was stuck in the status quo; not able to improve and stuck in a loop of school, band and swim. However this book showed me through the main character John that the only way to move out of the status quo is to get out of your comfort zone. I was able to apply this to my life and got better from it.
While the virus was very prevalent many Asian people were targeted because the virus supposedly came from china. This caused many forms of Asian hate in the US. Understanding these things made me better understand how much a global event can influence people to stereotype a certain group. On a more personal level, it made me kind of scared to go out into public for fear of being judged by my race just like the people that where targeted and abused because they were asian.
