The Apartheid was a time where segregation between the black and white race was institutionalised across South Africa. The Apartheid began in 1948 to the early 1990s.

1952
The African National Congress starts the Defiance Campaign. This is where black volunteers began peaceful protest against the apartheid which included sitting on benches meant for white citizens and being out after the curfew set for blacks.
1953
No Blacks Allowed
The Bantu Education Act was released. This was an act created to seperate the education system so that blacks and whites could not mix. Blacks were specifically prepared for a future as part of the working class as they were not expected to do any better.
1964
In 1962 Nelson Mandela a civil rights advocate was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in bombing government targets. With the help of fellow prisoners and visitors he was able to smuggle statement letters to continue the anti-apartheid movement.
1974
Due to the apartheid South Africa was removed from the United Nations in 1974 and was not allowed back until the apartheid would end.
1994
After 27 years in prison Nelson Mandela was released and in 1994 he became the president of South Africa. During his election the first mixed race vote took place and he was the first black president in the history of South Africa.
