- The Stratton Brothers:Alfred and Albert Stratton- March 27, 1905 in South London- Thomas and Ann Farrow were beaten with a crossbar in their flat/paint shop- Thomas was found murdered while Ann was found unconscious where she died 4 days later in the hospital- The brothers wanted money- First case in the UK with a conviction based on fingerprint evidence
- A greasy fingerprint was found on the inside of an empty cash box in the Farrow's flat. It was examined and compared to the prints of the two victims, the police officers on scene, and the prints on file at the Bureau, but no match was found. Fortunately, there were witnesses who saw two men leaving the Farrow's shop the morning of the murder. One witness was even able to identify one of the men as Alfred Stratton. The brothers were arrested and taken in by the police where their prints were taken. The fingerprint found on the cash box was a match for Alfred.
- Despite the convincing it took to convince the jury, the fingerprint evidence and the positive match was enough to accuse the brother's of murdering the Farrows. The Stratton Brothers were charged with murder and hanged in May of 1905.
