Abigail Williams is a young women that practiced witch craft to get rid of Jhon proctors wife because she wants to marry him.
In the story, we are able to identify Abigails character and my claim is that sometimes people will proceed to do anything to protect their reputation and the way others view them. Abigail is shown to fall into that category because in the text it states she says not i sir, Tituba and ruth after her uncle states that she was conjuring spirits, this shows hoe selfish she is and even though she was apart of it she tells others it wasn't her and blames the others. another evidence is when she tells the girls we danced, and Tituba conjured ruth Putnams dead sisters and that is all, and mark this let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word about the things, and i will come to you. Abigail says this to threaten the girls so they don’t say anything about what happened and that she wasn't apart of it. When betty was unconscious Abigail also was threatening her so she awakes and people wouldn’t accuse her ill beat you, betty!. All this evidence supports my claim that people will resolve to do anything to protect their name meaning they will sacrifice even friendships and family's just to be accepted by others and aren’t looked upon in a negative way.
In modern society. I think someone that has a similar connection to Abigail is my grandfather and thats because he cut ties off with some of his children just to keep his reputation well. and this supports my claim too.
