Cars are the leading cause of death in children. In 2018, American Academy of Pediatrics updated their car restraint guidelines. Colorado hasn't updated car restraint laws in over a decade. The differences are confusing for Colorado families!
I agree that we need to update Colorado law to reflect the safest practices for car restraints.
This bill is too expensive! The grant program is not needed to keep Colorado families safe!
The bill underwent extensive revisions in the house. On revision, the grant program to provide education and equitable access to proper restraint systems was removed by Republicans. The bill passed on the third reading in the house and moved to the senate where it passed without amendments!

It is estimated that 59-84% of children are improperly restrained while riding in a vehicle.As a mother of an 18month old, I found the law to be confusing and unsafe. I desire to keep Colorado families informed and safe on the roads!We need House Bill 24-1055!

Goal of House Bill 24-1055 to modernize child passenger safety laws:In the house bill introduced in February, car restraint laws were updated and a grant program was allocated $500,000 to increase education about the change in requirements and to ensure that families have the ability to obtain the correct car restraint system.
Soon, Colorado law and pediatric recommendations will align. As a mom and future pediatrician, I am happy that I can give recommendations to my patients and their families that align with Colorado law! Although I wish that there was money to spread awareness, I am hopeful that this update can occur in pediatric clinics across the state!
