  • I'm your reporter, Charlotte James, and this is the National News Network. We're here to keep you updated on Hurricane Harvey.
  • With me today I have Meterologist Frank Simone to give you the answers you need about this cyclone.
  • HURRICANE HARVEY NEWS August 30, 2017
  • Let's take a look at Harvey's path.
  • Harvey started out as a tropical wave near Cabo Verde on 8/13/17. By 8/17/17, the tropical depression that was Harvey had neared the Lesser Antilles. The following day, Tropical Storm Harvey traveled over the Windward Islands. On 8/25, Hurricane Harvey made landfall near San Jose Island, Texas as a cat.4. On 8/26, Harvey once again made landfall, this time on the shores of Copano's Bay as a cat.3. Early this morning, Harvey made landfall in Cameron, Louisiana as a tropical storm.

  • Thanks for the data analysis, Mr.Simone. One of the most fascinating things about Hurricane Harvey is that it nearly dissipated before having a chance to devastate Texas.
  • Harvey nearly terminated in the middle of the Caribbean, like many tropical storms. However, due to the high temperatures of the Gulf of Mexico and the formation of a warm eddy, as well as the proximity to the equator of the Bay of Campeche, Harvey was able to strengthen, growing into the monster hurricane that hit Texas a few days ago.
  • Reporting: Charlotte James
  • Harvey begins to strengthen in the Bay of Campeche, from a tropical wave to a tropical depression to a tropical storm.
  • Harvey loses power, going from a tropical storm to a tropical depression to a tropical wave.
