- Climax- A related series of incidents that build up to the point of great interest: The narrATOR kills the old man by suffocating him with the matress,, cuts the body up and hides the body under the planks of wood on the floor. "It was the beating of the old man's heart. It made my anger grow.."
- Yes, he is trying to comfort himself- but in vain. Death has come with his black shadow before him.
- Falling Action- wRAPS UP THE STORY: The police ask to enter after they have gotten a report on a heard scream from the apartment. "I SMiled and invited them in, the scream, I said, was my own. I had been dreaming."
- Your Neighbor reported a scream.....
- Resolution- outcome of conflict: The narrator had heard a banging sound in hi head, mistakig it for the old mans heart yet the old man is dead, and he confesses that he killed the old man and that he is hidden under the planks. "The men kept talking and smiling. Was it possible they didnot hear? no. they heard. they knew!"
- VILLAINS!! Enough! I admit to the deed!! Tear up the planks!!!
