- After she mourned over Robert, she was forced to marry a man named Thomas. They had 5 children together and she still had to work even though she had an infant with her.
- One day, Isabella's enslaver told her that if she did well on her field work that she could get emancipation papers early before the state required it. It turns out this was a lie because when the time came for her to get the papers, she was denied. In the end this lie made her so angry that she decided to run away. She ran away because she knew she would keep being taken advantage of if she didn't.
- Sorry! You didn't work hard enough! I guess you just will not be getting your emancipation papers anytime soon.
- That's not fair! You lied to me!
- After a year of living with John Nealy, I was sold to Mr. Dumont for 70 pounds. When I got there, there were 2 white servants and one of them named Kate would bully me to make me more tough. She was very mean and unkind towards me and was angry when I got praises from Mr. Dumont.
