The Great African American Migration started in 1916 and ended in 1970. It happened in two steps: from 1916 to 1930 and from 1940 to 1970. The Migration was caused by racial inequality among black and white in the south.one of the reasons for the African American people move was Jim Crow Law which is named after a character who painted him selves black in a theater. In addition to segregation, the same type of back and whit people's payment will be different, At school the white teacher gets $100 while the black teachers $20. The KKK is a group of white people who target black people and attack them.

When the cotton industry got destroyed there was a lack of job opportunity which eventually led to migration. At the north there were railroads and factory jobs opened for them.

By the end of 1919, some scholars estimate that 1 million Black people had left the South, usually traveling by train, boat or bus; a smaller number had automobiles or even horse-drawn carts
