Storyboard Text

  • It was a very hot day. Embry didn't like being hot, but she liked being bored even less. It was a boring, hot day. Her Mom had told her to go outside and play, but Embry didn't have anything to play with.
  • She couldn't play in the water, because her mom and dad couldn't watch her.
  • She had already been swinging on the swings for a really long time. Maybe, Embry thought, Maybe I should take a walk.
  • Embry was allowed to leave her yard. She was a big girl now, and besides, her parents said they knew everyone on the street. She left her yard and went down the sidewalk, where she saw a lot of cars by Mrs. Davis' house. Mrs. Davis had a bunch of stuff in her yard. All put out on tables. People were looking at the stuff.
  • "Mrs. Davis, why are your things out here on tables?" Embry asked. Mrs. Davis laughed. "I am having a yard sale, Embry!" Embry was confused. "You are selling your yard?" Mrs. Davis laughed again and shook her head. "No, dear. I am selling things I don't want anymore! Go have a look! Maybe you'll find something you want!"
  • Embry had never seen so many things all piled up like this! There were books and bags. There were clothes and shoes. There were papers and socks, and board games and toys!
  • But then, Embry saw it. The perfect toy. He was small and had a hole with stuffing coming out. He had a bright (color) collar on with a shiny bell. His long tail was scruffy, and one of his button eyes was barely hanging on.
  • She picked the toy up and gave him a squeeze, laughing happily. He felt warm from the sun, and his cute face and shiny bell were just perfect. "You're coming home with me!" Embry shouted, hurrying over to Mrs. Davis.
  • "Mrs. Davis, can I have this one? Please? He's so cute! I just love him!" Mrs. Davis nodded with a kind smile. "Of course, Embry. He is .75 cents. Can you get that much money?" Embry frowned. She had a piggy bank, and hadn't really bought anything lately.
  • Embry ran all the way home. It didn't even feel hot any more. She was determined to get that money before someone else took her treasure. .75 cents! That was all she needed!
  • With her Dads help, Embry carefully opened her piggy bank. With a 'whoosh!' noise, a pile of shiny coins came out. "How many of these makes 75? I need 75 cents to get my friend!"
