Storyboard Text

  • An example of Newton's Second Law is riding a bicycle. When you apply pressure and push down on the pedals to your bicycle, you are accelerating the bicycle. When there is a greater mass of the bike being accelerated, then there is more force needed to accelerate the bike
  • This example shows kinetic energy since the bike is propelled in a circular motion.
  • Newton's Third Law of Motion describes how every force in nature has an equal and opposite reaction. For example, if object A exerts a force on object B, object B also exerts an equal and opposite force on object A.
  • An example of Newton's Third Law is throwing a football. Since there is action in football, there will be an equal and opposite reaction. When you push another player away from you with the ball, it will push them away while also pushing you away from them.
  • This example shows gravity if you throw the football. The Earth is exerting a force of attraction on the football and then it also exerts an equal force on the Earth in the opposite direction.
