- Salva is a boy in the Dinka tribe. Salva knows that he is lucky because he has education unlike others. Nya is walking really far to get water for her family even in the hot conditions.
- Conflict
- Men carrying guns are causing chaos outside, the teacher rushed Salva and the other kids to safety before it was too late. When Nya finally reached water, she looked at her feet and found a thorn stuck in the middle of it.
- Climax
- Salva and others went to a barn, but in the morning, they were gone leaving Salva with the lady. The lady soon leaves Salva while Salva joins a different group. Nya's sister got sick because of the dirty water and gets diarrhea. She is quickly rushed another camp for treatment.
- Rising Action 4
- Men came to the group and began to get anything they seem useful such as clothes and Salva's uncle's gun. The men used the gun to shoot Salva's uncle. People from jeeps came to Nya's village to speak to the village's leader, they think that there is a water source inside Nya's village.
- Salva is in an Ethiopian refugee camp and the soldiers tell them to leave. years go by when Salva settled in a different camp where he learns English and saw his name on a list to go to America. Men are clearing out the land in Nya's water. Nya wonders why and continues to go get water from a pond.
- Salva goes to America and meets his new family, but after a long time he figure out his family is alive and goes back to Sudan to visit them.
