- Alexander Hamilton points out that the people in the South use slaves to do their labor. In the South, there are many big plantations, and lots of slave owners. The reason Hamilton is saying this is because he believes that slaves should be paid for labor. Hamilton believes that this is not right because people use slaves for their plantations.
- Who Does This Benefit?
- Now place your bets to who this benefits: The very seat of the government which Hamilton sits.
- When Hamilton came into his position as Secretary of Treasury, the United States was in great debt to a number of wealthy merchants and other countries. Hamilton supports a strong central government, so he is trying his plan to make the states pay debts for the national government.

- Jefferson claims that Hamilton's plan benefits Hamilton. Thomas Jefferson prefers a smaller state government, opposed to a large government. Jefferson thinks that it is unfair that Hamilton is providing a plan that benefits Hamilton. Hamilton's plan is to tax and make the states pay debts in order to pay off the national debt.

- Thomas Jefferson is saying that if the central government tries to tax whiskey, the South will be very angry. Jefferson thinks that Hamilton's plan is unfair because the South had already paid their debts. Jefferson also believes that there should be more power in the states, and paying debts to the central government is contributing to the central government.
