I come to watch arguments and speakers talk about different beliefs in the south and north. I support the south, we do have slaves that work on our farms. The south supports keeping slavery, because they use slaves on all their farms. They also want new states to be allowed to buy and use slaves. The north wants to abolish slavery, or get rid of it. They don’t want new states to become slave states.

What is your favorite part about this place?
These big fields are what made dad settle down here. They were perfect land for all the crops we wanted to grow. We started off growing cotton, but now we grow cash crops. That includes cotton, tobacco, sugar, indigo, rice. Some other cash crop farms might grow okra, yam, sweet potato, peanuts, and watermelon. Most planters now instead of just growing one crop run mixed-crop producing farms.

This is my favorite place because I like to watch the planters walk by and purchase nice things. I’m at the bottom of the social hierarchy pyramid. It’s the pyramid that classifies your wealth and rights. The highest is planters who usually have over 20 slaves and often are in political office. Second is small farmers, who own land, but usually fewer than 20 slaves. Sometimes they participated in political office, but not office. Third, are poor farmers who had no slaves and very little land. They don’t have any slaves and do everything themselves by hand. Finally there are slaves who work on plantations and have no rights of freedom.
