- After weeks of travel, Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus arrives in the Americas in 1492 with his 3 ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.
- I can' believe I've found a western route to Asia from Europe!

- I did not expect for there to be people here. Are they even people? They look so strange, and I can't even understand what they're saying.
- What are these men doing here? I've never seen anyone like them before but we will welcome them and give gifts.
- Here are some beads, as a gift.
- The colonists find a Native American Tribe here called the Taino. They begin to trade goods with each other, the Europeans often giving much less valuable goods than the Taino.

- I never knew you could use animals to carry goods! That makes everything so much easier!
- Wow this corn tastes so good and is really good for you too!
- The trade with the Natives sparked a cross-Atlantic trade between the Europeans and Natives, called the Columbian Exchange. Natives got things like domestic animals, while Europeans got crops like corn and squash.
