Example; The story starts with an unnamed narrator describing to us how he was asked told to find Simon Wheeler.

“There was a feller here once by the name of Jim Smiley, in the winter of ‘49—or may be it was the spring of ‘50—I don’t recollect exactly.”
Significance: The frontier setting adds to the humor and exaggeration of the story, showing how storytelling thrived in rural, small-town communities.
