- We're gonna stop you!!!
- Peace, but some demands...
- Fine, but no independence.
- Cuba's economy collapses in 1895 and they rebel. Spain decides to send 150,000 troops and their best general, Valeriano Weyler, to stop them.
- Uh oh
- Your cornered!
- Yellow journalism, exaggerated stories, urged America to intervene in the rebellion. President McKinley sent a battleship to protect the U.S., but it was bombed!
- Even though Americans called for war, McKinley hesitated. Then he sent a list of demands to the Spanish, and they accepted all accept for Cuban independence.
- This was a splendid little war.
- McKinley finally declares war, and he starts with the Philippines. The U.S. destroys the entire Spanish pacific fleet. America next moves on to Cuba.
- The U.S. navy surrounds and destroys the rest of the Spanish fleet while Roosevelt leads the attack of San Juan Hill, where they also destroyed the Spanish.
- Charge!!!
- Spain signs the treaty of Paris, and even though the U.S. paid 20 million, they received Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Finally, Cuba got independence.
