- From 1350BC to the 1700's, many people were dying from smallpox. It spread from animals and started in Egypt in 1350BC. People who got sick developed a fever, vomited and a rash. 30% of the infected people died.
- I'm scared ,I have small pox 30% of the people getting it are dying.
- My name is Edward Jenner and I want to be a doctor and find the cure for smallpox because so many people are dying from it.
- Edward Jenner was born in 1749. He became a doctor at the time when smallpox was common. It was a very worrying virus of the 18th century.
- Edward Jenner thought a lot about what the dairy maid had said. He wondered if the cowpox virus can protect you from the dangerous smallpox virus. He decided to do an experiment.
- I am not scared of smallpox because I have already had cowpox.

- Edward did his experiment on a eight year old boy called James Phipps. James got ill for a few days and then recovered. 8 weeks later James was given a small dose of smallpox and he did not get sick
- James, i am going to scratch your arm and put cowbox in you.
- He tried the vaccine on many other people and it worked. He wrote about this vaccine and the doctors in London started using it.
- Edward Jenner became rich after his amazing discovery of the smallpox vaccination. It saved millions of lives .and smallpox was wiped out in 1978
