Lazarus was very sick and his sisters, Mary and Martha take care of him. They are from Bethany, which is outside of Jerusalem. This is where Jesus will come to perform a miracle.
Jesus arrives and Mary and Martha are Upset
Mary and Martha go to Jesus to ask for help in healing Lazarus. Jesus comforts them by saying "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's son may be glorified through it." (John 11:4)
Jesus is Upset
Jesus and his disciples begin the journey to Bethany. On their way, Jesus tells his disciple that Lazarus is dead, and that for their sake it was better that He wasn't there so they would believe. That is why Jesus takes long to get there
Jesus Raises Lazarus
Mary and Martha meet Jesus and they get mad at him because he didn't come in time to heal Lazarus. Jesus was waiting with his disciples to go in the right time. He wanted the disciples to experience his power.
Jesus asks to go to the place where Lazarus is buried. Once there, Jesus weeps because Lazarus, his friend dies. This shows that Jesus was human and that he is here to be one.
Jesus returns to the tomb 2 days later. Martha doesn't think that it should be open, but Jesus tells her to have faith. Jesus prays to God and He tells Lazarus to come out and he does.
