  • Macduff tells Duncan's sons, Malcolm and Donalbain about their father's murder. They ask who killed him and are told that it was the guards as they had blood on their hands and faces and were found with daggers.

  • Macbeth says that he has killed the guards! Macduff is shocked and asks why Macbeth has done this. We know that Macbeth has done this so that the guards cannot be questioned and say that they didn't do it. Lady Macbeth pretends to faint.

  • Macolm and Donalbain talk about what they will do now their father is dead. They are worried that whoever killed their father will come and kill them next. They decide to flee.

  • An old man discusses with Ross about all the strange things that he had noticed the night before. Duncan's horses ate each other and a falcon got killed with an owl. Nature is mirroring the terrible events, showing how unnatural and evil the killing of a king is.

  • Macbeth is made King of Scotland. All of the witches prophecies have now come true!
  • Macduff talks to Ross about Macbeth being made King of Scotland. Ross asked Macduff if he will go to Scone to see Macbeth be crowned, Macduff says he won't. This suggests that Macduff is suspicious of Macbeth and doesn't trust him.
