  • Good Day Ma'am! Relax first, have a sit. How are you feeling lately?
  • I. ORIENTATION PHASEStranger Phase - this is where the client meet the nurse as a stranger. Clients seek assistance and asks questions
  • Goodmorning nurse! I would like to have an appointment with a doctor.
  • What is happening mom?! I'm getting scared for you!
  • II. IDENTIFICATION PHASEThis is where the selection of appropriate professional assistance is done. This is also the phase where the patient begins a sense of belonging.This is where the nurse also takes leadership and takes charge of the patient
  • These past few days, I feel extra tired, hungry, and thirsty. I also notice that i go to the comfort room every 5 minutes.
  • When did you start feeling these symptoms? I'll take your vital signs then run some tests. You'll see the doctor shortly.
  • I am Grace Tenio, your nurse and I will take care of you.

  • III. EXPLOITATION PHASEUse of professional assistance is done and the patient feels like an integral part of the helping environment.
  • Based from the results, you are experiencing Type I diabetes. We'll be providing an insulin for you.

  • There are 2 types of diabetes right? What is the difference of the two?
  • I didn't expect to have diabetes. Diabetes is a genetic disease and you cannot intake overloads of sugar and sweets. Is having high blood pressure a sign ?
  • This is where the nurse's role become a teacher and a resource person. Nurse becomes a teacher since she imparts knowledge to the patient whereas she's also a resource Person since the nurse provides specific needed information for more understanding of the patient.

  • Yes. Type 1 diabetes is dont produce insulin that's why you are given an insulin injector whereas type 2 dont respond to insulin but this can be controlled thru diet and exercise

  • IV. RESOLUTION PHASEThis is where the termination of relationship between the nurse and client occurs. The nurse evaluates the the situation and the goals were met.The nurse acts as a counselor since she helps the patient recognize, face and resolve problems.

  • I am Hildegard Peplau and that is my Theory of Interpersonal Relations. My theory is focused on the interpersonal and therapeutic relationship between the nurse and the client. The seven nursing roles that is applied in clinical nursing and the four phases of of the interpersonal relationship. I hope I provide a clear example of my theory to my aspiring nurses.
