  • FACTS:
  • Rabies can spread to people animals if bitten by a rabid animal.
  • Membrane
  • Matrix Protein
  • How does Rabies Spread?
  • Rabies is commonly found in foxes, raccoons, skunks and bats in the US.
  • Nucleoprotein
  • Even though it's fatal, rabies is vaccine-preventable.
  • Glycoprotein
  • 4. Virus spreads to nerves multiplies in other organs
  • 1. Rabid raccoon bite
  • 3. Virus causes brain to become inflamed
  • 2. Virus spreads to nervous sys. and infects it
  • Membrane Bilayer
  • Nucleoprotein
  • Spike Proteins
  • RNA
  • How Rabies Replicates:
  • Rabies is spread through direct contact (animal bite/broken skin) with a rabid animal. Once infected with rabies, it'll take up to 2 weeks to show symptoms.
  • 1. Absorption2. Virus enters cell3. Membrane is destroyed/removed4. Virus copied DNA turns it into RNA
  • Before showing symptoms, the virus spreads to the nervous system, infecting it.
  • 5. Ribosomes combine proteins after transcription6. Carbs attach to backbone of proteins7. Virus replicates 8. Virus spreads to other parts of the hosts body
  • The brain then becomes inflamed, spreads to the nerves and replicates in the host's organs.
  • I become rabid when infected saliva or bite is transmitted into my body days before death.
  • I'm a raccoon. I'm the most common mammal to be infected with rabies virus. Any mammal can have rabies, but my species have a higher chance of it, due to poor living situations.
  • Rabies infects the main nervous system of animals, which can cause brain diseases and death. If another animal or human is bitten or scratched by a rabid animal, they would face the same consequences.
