Storyboard Text

  • In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is don't jump to conclusions. For example, in the story it says, (...He suddenly pulls the trigger...) - You Killed him, Charlie! You shot him dead! pg. 83. This supports the theme because Charlie turned against Pete Van Horn just because he thought he was a monster. He didn't wait to see his face or listen to his story, he just assumed. Second, Charlie says, It's the kid! pg. 84 Which makes everybody go along with it and say Where's that kid? Let's get him! pg.85. They didn't hear him out at all and automatically guessed it was the kid because he knew a lot about aliens. Lastly, because the residents kept jumping to conclusions, they never found out who it really was. Toward the end of the story, 2 aliens say, We'll go from one to the other and let them destroy themselves This proves that it really was aliens and that they didn't take the time to listen to everyone's story. In conclusion, this story taught me to never jump to conclusions and to listen to others.
