- What have I done?
- Edmund goes to Edgar as his father tells him to, he warns Edgar about their dad being against Edgar. Edmund is tricking both Edgar and Gloucester into fighting against each other so his father favour’s him and Edgar doesn’t know that Edmund set him up.
- Father is plotting to banish you, for your betrayal
- Goneril and Oswald have a short conversation in act 1, scene 3 for Oswald to provoke Lear, she decides to do this as Regan and Goneril decided after Cordelia was banished to team up to exploit Lear to take his assets.
- Toy with Lear's need for power, make it so that he is vulnerable
- It would be pleasure
- Cut your knights in half, this is outrageous, there are way too many!!!
- Goneril brings up an issue she has with the knights staying at her house. She talks about the enormous number of knights and the lack of professionalism. She complains to her father that he should trim it down by half to only have 50 knights. This makes Lear furious and he curses her saying, “ To make this creature fruitful. Into her womb convey sterility; Dry up in her the organs of increase”(|,|V,274-276). He wants his daughter to be sterile or if she is able to have a child it will be very disobedient.
- How dare you speak to me like that, be gone!!
- The Fool and King Lear start arguing and The Fool starts disrespecting Lear and talking about how he is not wise enough for his old age. This is another example of Lear getting angry in the play.
- You have grown old and become king, but have not gained the wisdom as you grew old
- I am the king, you will not speak to me like that
- Regan must recieve this letter; Lear is coming
- After banishing Goneril, King Lear decides that he is going to live with his middle daughter Regan, this was what Goneril and Regan planned and Goneril sends a letter to Regan that King Lear is on the way.
- Time to visit my only worthy daughter
