After Austria-Hungary empire collapsed after WW1 Czechoslovakia became a free country (October 28, 1918). But 20% of its population was ethnic Germans. They rebelled against this new found government and protested to become a part of Germany or Austria. Ultimately they were silenced using violence. After sometime German speaking people were integrated into the country, but when Great Depression began they were hurt the most. 60% of unemployed in Czechoslovakia were German's.In 1933 Conrad Henline founded the SPD (German reprezenting party) and by 1935 became second largest political party in Czechoslovakia. Hitler became a big supporter of the party as one of his goals was to united all German speaking people in Europe.
German speaking people protesting against the government.
Hitler started delivered antagonising speeches against Czechoslovaks and even suggested invasion (it was rejected by Nazis). However neither France nor Britain were prepared to defend Czechoslovakia and wanted to avoid conflict at all cost. Both the French and British leadership (Edouard Daladier and Nevile Chamberlain) believed that peace could be saved only by the transfer of the Sudeten German areas from Czechoslovakia. For these leaders appeasement, seemed like a better option than war.All three leaders Hitler, Chamberlain and Daladier agreed to meet and Hitler promised not to continue military action. They agreed that all areas that are more than 50% German should be turned over. Czechoslovakians were not consulted but were forced to agree on September 21st. Hitler also demanded that all Czechoslovakians should leave those areas by September 28.

Chamberlin desperately convened a four-power conference to settle the dispute on September 29, 1938. It included Chamberlain, Hitler, Daladeir, and Mussolini. A deal was reached in less than a day and the four leaders signed the Munich agreement. The agreement allowed German army to occupy the German speaking lands and an international commission would agree on all of the disputes over other lands. Czechoslovakians were again not included and were told to resist alone or submit to the agreement, they submitted.
