- Abigail and the Girls pretend to see a yellow bird with Mary Warren spirit in the sky. This scene shows extreme emotion which is why it is an example of Hysteria
- Revenge
- "Let God blame me, not you, not you, Rebecca! I'll not have you judging me any more! Is it natural work to lose seven children before they live a day?"
- "Seven dead in childbirth."
- Abby wants to be with John Proctor. But Proctor resist her and wants to be a better husband. This is an example of lust because Abigail has strong love and desire to be with John Proctor.
- Lies and Deceit
- "Now look you, child, your punishment will come in its time. But if you trafficked with spirits in the forest I must know it now, for surely my enemies wil, and they will ruin me with it."
- Elizabeth is jealous of other women and wives in the world that are "prettier and more interesting than her" during this scene. This is a big example of jealously.
- Pride
- "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another inn my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"
- Mrs. Ann Putnam wants revenge on Rebecca Nurse for "killing her seven children." She wants Rebecca Nurse to pay for her actions even though she did not kill Mrs. Putnam's children.
- "Sssh!"
- Abigail is lying to Reverend Parris about what she did in the woods. She was doing witchcraft in the woods with the girls.
- "But we never conjured spirits."
- Proctor does not want to lie. He would rather die a honest man. He has more self respect for himself than to lie and live a life that is not honest.
