- The first sign of the black death were large bulges or lumps that appeared on the skin, usually in the groin, in the armpits or on the neck.

- The Bubonic plague was transmitted by fleas with plague bacteria in their stomachs, fleas were carried by rats, when a rat died from the plague a flea would jump onto another warm blooded host including humans.

- 500 years after the plague - scientists working in 2011 confirmed that Yersinia Pestis was the cause of the Black Death by DNA.
- Historians vary over when the plague first originated. Some believe that it was first announced over 3000 years ago. It was definitelypresent in Roman Empire around AD 550 - it caused many deaths. It is thought that the plague also had its origins from Southern China in the 1320s.
