  • THE HISTORY OF TOM JONESby Henry Fielding
  • The whole plot is built round the question of the hero's identity. In this storytelling you'll can see the last part of the novel, when- finally- betrayals and macchinations are unmasked, and it turns out the truth: Tom is the illegitimate child of Bilfil's own mother- Mr Allworthy's sister. The main theme of the novel is the contrast between Tom Jones's good nature, imperfect but eventually corrected by his love for Sophia and his half-brother Blifil's hypocrisy.
  • The final part shows that the lusty rascal Tom is, in fact, an infinitely better human being that the vicious pretenders who surround him and scheme against him. The message is very important and the hero overcomes not only all external plot's but, most importantly, his own weaknesses of character, to win both love and fortune. At the end of the novel Tom appears redeemable whereas Blifil is not. Tom finally see the error of his ways and changes them.
