  • The first law also states that an object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
  • Like if I kick my toy ball really hard down a hill it will keep accelerating until something stops it.
  • Today we are going to learn about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of Newtons laws.
  • Great!
  • The first of Newtons laws explains how an object at rest will remain at rest until acted on by an unbalanced force.
  • Like how my pencil is at rest on my desk until I push it off with my hand.
  • The second law states that when a force acts on a mass acceleration is produced. The greater the mass(of the object being accelerated) the greater amount of force needed to accelerate the object.
  • An example of this is if I had a rock(more mass) and a lacrosse ball(less mass) it would take less force to accelerate it than the rock with more mass. The lacrosse ball will also accelerate faster and longer than the rock due to the lack of mass and weight.
  • An example is of the first law is if a ball is at rest there is no pushing or pulling to make it move, just force normal (up) and force gravity (down) is keeping it balanced but if a hand, for example puts force against it, it will accelerate making it unbalanced.
