October Revolution
People protested the Czar in front of the palace, leading to Bloody Sunday when the crowd was fired on. This angered more people, including the Czar, who tightened his power.
Civil War
Women protested the food shortages due to the war, leading to the Czar abdicating his throne. The Provisional Government/ Duma then took over. 
War Communism and the Red Terror
Lenin returned to Russia and formed the Bolshevik party. The Bolsheviks and the Soviets controlled the government, and Lenin took control. Russia became a communist state. 
The White Army, fighting for democracy, and the Red Army, fighting for communism, went to war in Russia. The Red Army won. 
Since the Red Army won, Russia became a communist country and Lenin gained full control as dictator.
