Communication is not a stagnant simple speech or no speech existence, and non verbal is not nothing to say. often people with autism struggle to communicate in ways others understand, which is frustrating and difficult for them. IT could mean the difference between getting their needs met and struggling to connect. With the use of a device, and text to speech communication, including sound boards and high tech devices. Many peoples lives have been changed due to the technology, and have been freed from the prison that they live in because of their limited verbal communication skills, or because of their difference in communication. Because of these new devices, we have changed the way we see communication.
Although not every child is helped by technology, many teachers have said it has changed their classrooms. They keep the attention of the learner for longer, and allow more open conversations.Art is another means of communication, a form that takes on the more human artistic version of communicating. People are able to tell their stories through the art they create. Despite the findings of dramatic disorganizations within the minds of people with autism, art, devices, and patience create common ground between the many factions of communicators in our world.
It is evident in many of the people in these videos that communication is liberating for them, and the embarrassment and frustration of charades, guessing games, and flat out ignoring was part of their every day life and every day frustrations.Participation and finding your voice is a means of becoming an active member of society, even if that means is not exactly the same as those around you.
