- Rainsford is a hunter that writes books and is currently on a yacht. While on a yacht he is talking to Whitney about hunting when she asks him "Don't you think animals feel pain?" and he responds with a no. This is obvious foreshadowing. Later that night while passing by an island. Rainsford goes for a light. After standing there for a bit he hears a gunshot and some screeching that makes drop his light, out of reflexes he reaches for the lighter, but FALLS! After a bit of struggling the shore washes him onto the beach and he hears one more unidentified screech before passing out.

- Rainsford awakes and walks toward the island. After a bit of walking Rainsford notices a giant mansion that he thinks might be a mirage, (an illusion) but it was real after further inspection he knocks on the door. Rainsford is met with a large man who seems to be Russian. The large man is told to move over by another large man who greets himself as General Zaroff. General Zaroff miraculously recognizes Rainsford as a man who creates hunting books that Zaroff reads. Zaroff leads Rainsford inside to the dining room where warm food is waiting. Zaroff and Rainsford where Zaroff mentions he is a hunter and that he does not hunt any ordinary animals because they bore him, he wants something that can think and reason. HE HUNTS HUMANS!

- In disgust Rainsford loses his appetite and questions Zaroff's ways, but Zaroff responds by informing Rainsford that he only hunts the scumiest of the scum. (meaning their all horrible people.) Zaroff offers Rainsford to hunt with him, but Rainsford says he is tired and wants to go to bed, so Zaroff tells Ivan to show him to his room. In the morning Rainsford heads down stairs hoping last night was all just a rouse, but when Rainsford gets downstairs Zaroff meets him with a grin. Zaroff proposes to Rainsford that since he won't hunt with Zaroff he should be hunted. Rainsford agrees and the terms are that if he survives three days he is free but if he gets killed he is dead. During the hunt Rainsford uses his hunting and tracking skills to hide himself and plant three traps Knife Spring Trap, Burmese Tiger Pit, and Ugandan tree trap. Rainsford's traps didn't work on Zaroff, but managed to kill Ivan and one of Zaroff's hounds he uses to hunt Rainsford down.
- The end
- Near the end of the chase after Ivan gets killed Zaroff is chasing behind Rainsford. When Rainsford gets near the edge of cliff that leads into water he jumps and survives. Instead of swimming away Rainsford swims back to the mansion.
- Zaroff is suprised to see Rainsford in his room because he thought he swam off. Since the three days weren't over they fight to the death.
- Rainsford defeats Zaroff!
