  • The Ku Klux Klan was inspired by the movie 'Birth of a Nation' and this was their initial resurfacing in the 1920s after their fall. They eventually gained popularity and continued to spread racial hatred, the organization drastically growing.
  • 1919 Red SummerThe KKK rioted over 36 cities during the summer of 1919, killing and torturing hundreds and thousands of African Americans - a riot to maintain white supremacy.
  • 1925 KonKlave40,000 KKK members marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.on August 8, 1925. Organized to counter reports of faltering enrollment, this “KonKlave“ succeeded in attracting national attention but marked the peak of Klan power in the 1920s.
  • Bus BurningThe KKK set fire to a bus with black passengers who took part in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.As thebus burned, the KKK held the doors shut, intending toburnthe riders to death.
  • Church BurningTwo weeks after Martin Luther King Jr's speech 'I have a Dream', the KKK bombed an Alabama church with 200 people inside, injuring 22 people and killing 4 children. No one was found guilty until in 1977, when one member was convicted of the bombing.

  • Greensboro Protest/MassacreIn 1979, there was an anti-Klan rally in Greensboro in which the protestors turned violent when 40 KKK members arrived with guns and shot into the crowd after the protestors had destroyed their vehicles with rocks. 5 were killed and a dozen were injured.
  • We need to stand up for ourselves!
