- That gold would make us wealthy for life.
- She met a black man at twilight who was sulky and asked her to come back with offerings.
- The next evening she set off again for the swamp, with her apron heavily laden.Tom waited and waited for her, but in vain.
- It was saida great black man, with an ax on his shoulder, was seen late that very eveningcoming out of the swamp, carrying a bundle tied in a check apron, with an airof surly triumph.

- During a long summer’s afternoon he searched about the gloomy place, but no wife or property was to be seen.
- Tom eventually comes across her apron tied to a tree. He discovers inside of it a heart and a liver, supposedly of his wife.

- Tom met the black man one evening and discussed the terms where he could have the pirates treasure.
