- There are quite a few reasons why the Spanish war started,but the main cause of the Spanish American War was Cuba’s struggle for independence from Spain.The Cuban’s were fighting to gain independence, the Cubans rebel against spanish because they weren’t satisfied with the Spanish administration ,lack of political representation, and high taxes. Another major cause of the Spanish American War was the humanitarian concerns over Cuba. The U.S want to expand in Latin American and the Pacific allowing for more territory to grow and expand.The sinking of the American Battleship is what led to war.

- There are a lot of effects from the Spanish American War, for example the U.S had control of Cuba, Puerto Rico Philippines,and Guam also the U.S will protect and partially control Cuba. In 1998 Cuba was freed from Spanish rule and gained independence,Cuba became a virtual U.S protectorate. The U.S defeats Spain in 3 months because an armistice was signed on August 12,1898 which brought an end to the fighting.
